NERVOUS ABOUT WHERE YOU STAND LEGALLY?

I’ll never forget my first wedding photography contract… I had photographed a couple of weddings without any sort of contract in place and knew it was time to make sure all my bases were covered. I was able to put together a smaller agreement and I began sending it out to clients to sign. While I felt a touch more safe, I didn’t have a lawyer look into the contract and make any revisions. I also didn’t expect that a contract should continually change over time as I faced new experiences and issues to troubleshoot. There’s a whole contractual verbiage that even needs to take place that will make sure everything is covered!

As I began to photograph more weddings, I had more opportunities, struggles, miscommunications and understandings of what clients were looking for. Was I still safe with this contract? The more I’d think about it, the more I’d anxiously pace. There were even many nights where I’d lie awake with the fear of getting sued! I knew it was time to buckle down and protect my business, so I hired an attorney to comb through my contract and revise it to fit my own business needs.

Several years ago, my attorney and I sat down to coffee and went through my contract word by word.

I am so grateful that as we sat down he asked me:

”Where do you want to be in the next few years?”

By answering this pivotal question, we were able to cater to my needs as a business, rather than be stuck in a contract that only served me for the first couple of years of my career.

Eventually, we scrapped it and my attorney was able to put together all new clauses that would protect me as I needed.

WHAT WILL BE ADDRESSED IN THIS CONTRACT?

What happens when:

The client would like to book my services. What are they responsible for?

The client cancels their contract.

I’m unable to perform photos at the event.

The client wants to add more coverage.

Someone harrasses me or I feel unsafe.

I can’t deliver a product that’s up to the clients’ expectations.

My gear is damaged at the event by the guests.

A client books another photographer at the event that is not from my studio.

A shot list is requested.

The church doesn’t allow me to move around or use flash during the ceremony.

The client won’t cooperate with my shooting style.

The client wants to own the Copyright.

And more!

HOW MUCH MONEY IS THIS SAVING YOU?

Most lawyers will charge anywhere between $100 - $300 per hour in order to create a contract like this! After all of the correspondence with my attorney to make sure these clauses were just right, I invested nearly $5,000. $5,000! I want to make this contract available to you for only $100. That’s an incredible savings of $4,900! It’s an investment in security, peace of mind, and the safety of your business.

I knew how important it would be to make sure that I felt covered and to finally be able to take a big breath and rest easy. Rarely do I ever receive any revisions from clients on this contract, so I know that it does the job that it needs to do! A contract like this not only protects you, but also your subject. Peace of mind on both ends is a rewarding element of your business.

“In my 10 years of shooting weddings, I’ve looked over dozens of wedding photographer contracts. My own contract was a Frankestein monster cobbled from the many contracts shared with me by friends in the business. KMP’s is the only one I’ve seen that includes everything in one place to make sure I’m protected from any possible liability or concern. I’m so grateful to have it and use it.”
